Earlier this month, cast members of "Downton Abbey' said their farewell to filming as they wrapped up the worldwide phenomenon in its sixth and final season.
In the last five seasons of the critically acclaimed period drama, the Crawleys were shown living a life of comfort and luxury within and outside the walls of their grand country house while their servants attend to all of their needs.
One of their most trusted servants, Anna Bates, has become an interesting and well-loved character for her kind heart and unwavering loyalty.
Married to John Bates, Anna was raped in the fifth season by Mr. Alex Green; when Alex met his demise under mysterious circumstances, John was eventually blamed.
Although the couple was remained with each other towards the end of the fifth season, many fans are still questioning Mr. Green's unfortunate end.
Joanne Froggatt, who plays Anna, opened up to Deadline about the obscurity surrounding such death and assured fans that Alex's death will finally be resolved in the upcoming season.
"We do see the mystery behind Mr. Green's death resolved. Obviously how it's resolved I can't tell you, or whether it's good or bad for the Bates, I can't tell you, but it's resolved," the actress shared.
"We get to the bottom with what exactly happened, and as always, there's quite a lot of drama for Anna and Mr. Bates in season six," she added.
The actress also explained more about Anna and John's happiness, which has never been effortlessly attained. Throughout the series, the unlucky yet committed couple had been under pressure when it comes to achieving happiness and marital bliss.
Mr. Green's death, in particular, became another barrier that these lovers should address to have some peace of mind.
Earlier this year, creator Julian Fellows spoke to The New York Times about the couple's heartbreaking experiences.
Fellows shared his sentiments about how some people are simply unlucky in life, and John and Anna Bates do find themselves in such category.
Meanwhile, fans are also looking forward to possibilities relating to the love life of Lady Mary Crawley, played by Michelle Dockery, who has to settle on one of her suitors before the period drama ends.
Even her sister Lady Edith, portrayed by Laura Carmichael, has not found everlasting romantic bliss yet.
A wedding might be in place, though, as Mrs. Hughes and Mr. Carson might just get the sweet ending that they deserve.
Their romance will be more evident in "Downton Abbey' season six, especially after the proposal scene in last year's Christmas special.
According to executive producer Gareth Neame, their love story "felt right and natural for the storylines to come together" for the upcoming season, thereby hinting at a wedding ceremony for the well-trusted butler and the compassionate head housekeeper.
With "Downton Abbey' being expected to offer a happy ending for majority og the characters, fans can look forward to the sixth season premiere on Sunday, Jan. 3.
