Showtime has recently unveiled a new "Homeland' trailer online, which offers new clips from the political drama show's highly anticipated fifth season.
As the hit series is set for an official premiere in October, the producers recently teased the possibly storylines for main characters Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) and Saul Berenson (Mandy Patinkin).
As already revealed about "Homeland' season five, the story will happen three years after the events that came about in 2014.
On bad terms with the CIA, Carrie makes a decision to seclude herself and reside in Berlin, Germany. According to producer Alex Gansa, the new location is a "center for the surveillance refuseniks."
"Carrie is out of the intelligence business when the season starts and she finds herself in Berlin. It's a center for dissidence," Gansa shared. "That's where hacktivists go because German privacy laws are so strict. It's hard to have surveillance on people there.
Gansa also explained how the new location offers a brand new backdrop for production.
Because Germany is close to Russia and also offers opportunities for recruitment for the Syrian Islamic state, the showrunner said that the new surroundings have been deemed ready for development.
As opposed to her classic terrorist-tracking habits, "Homeland' season five follows the story of Carrie as she becomes chief of security next to a German industrialist and philanthropist that "hopes to make the world a better place."
Viewers will also have a first glimpse of the former CIA agent in a completely domestic role with totally different obligations at home and at work.
Taking more confidence in her ability to build up relationships, fans can also expect Carrie to set her sight on a new romantic partner and will not rekindle any passionate connection with black-ops agent Peter Quinn.
Looking into her new career, such unpredictable decision becomes a talking point for her former colleagues in the U.S.
With her mentor and friend Saul being re-assigned as CIA director, he believes Carrie's actions are noticeably in opposition to her former values.
By working for a radical individual rather than in a larger agency, Gansa explained that her character is being recognized as a traitor to her country.
Showtime's "Homeland' season five is set for an official premiere on Oct. 4. Its new trailer can be viewed below.
