Damon Gupton is the latest actor to have signed on to the cast of "Bates Motel.'
After starring on Fox's music drama "Empire' and NBC's crime drama "The Player,' Gupton will take on a recurring role as Dr. Gregg Edwards in the fourth season of A&E's "Psycho' prequel.
Dr. Edwards is reportedly a resident doctor at Pineview Mental Institution, described as a medical practitioner who "walks a fine line between professional curiosity and personal investment in his patients' lives."
In the third season, Norma Bates (Vera Farmiga) paid a visit to the sanitarium to seek professional help for her troubled son, Norman (Freddie Highmore), only to learn that she cannot afford the services offered by the mental institution.
Nonetheless, while these mental health services are costly, executive producer Kerry Ehrin revealed in an interview with Entertainment Weekly earlier this year that Norma will try to find a way to get her hands on the amount of money necessary for Norman to be admitted to Pineview.
"Those places are insanely expensive, and if you don't have health insurance -- and even if you do --they're crazy expensive," Ehrin explained. "So where that money is going to come from, what Norma Bates will have to do...what pretzel she will tie herself into, I don't know yet. But she wants, more than anything in the world, to fix things for her son and to be there for him."
Last month, it was announced that Dr. Edwards might also be a new love interest for Norma. While it remains uncertain whether the doctor will become Norma's new man, what is confirmed is that the relationship between Farmiga's character and Sheriff Romero (Nestor Carbonell) will eventually become a romantic one, as stated by executive producer Carlton Cuse.
"Our intention is to make people want them to get together," Cuse said, referring to Norma and Romero in an interview with Yahoo TV. "When that might happen, Kerry and I wouldn't want to say right now, but that's exactly what you should be feeling. You should be wanting them to get together."
"We feel like we have an epic couple with Norma and Romero," he added. "We plan to deliver on the promise of that at some point, in some form."
A&E's "Bates Motel' season four is expected to premiere in March next year.
