Amy Duggar-King remains a happy wife despite not opting to have children at the moment. The former '19 Kids and Counting' guest star revealed that she and husband Dillon King do not have plans on raising kids any time soon. However, this has been considered a disappointment by some members of her Duggar clan, as reported by Us Weekly.
Amy and Dillon exchanged wedding vows in September and spent their honeymoon in Cancun. She shared how her Duggar cousins had been certain that she would get pregnant during the honeymoon but seemed "almost upset" after telling them that she was not.
"There's no honeymoon baby," she told Us Weekly. "My cousins asked me when I got back, they were like, 'Are you pregnant?' And I was like, 'Uh, no.' And they looked shocked. I mean, shocked! They were ... almost upset, you know?"
Amy's cousin, Jessa, recently welcomed her first baby, Spurgeon Elliott, with husband Ben Seewald, a few days after their first wedding anniversary. Jessa's sister, Jill Duggar-Dillard, also gave birth shortly after celebrating her nuptials with husband Derick.
Meanwhile, Jim Bob Duggar previously wrote an open letter about birth control and family planning. The Duggar family patriarch told the story of when his wife Michelle became pregnant with their second child while taking birth control pills, but miscarried.
"We were so grieved. We did not know that sometimes the pill allows you to get pregnant but then causes a miscarriage," Jim Bob shared. "We thought we could set our own timetable for having children, for example- when we were "financially able,' or when we "had all our ducks in a row.'"
After reflecting on several Biblical passages, Amy's uncle also explained that he and his wife realized how God is the only powerful being who can control the gift of having children.
Since the miscarriage, Michelle stopped using contraceptives and accepted God's gifts instead, making the family famous for its large clan comprised of 19 children.
Jim Bob also noted that it remains crucial for fathers, as leaders in their family, to put away "books, magazines, television or Internet that have worldly or sensual content" in one's home to protect its members.
"Replace them with good things, like wholesome music, biographies of great Christians, good old-fashioned family fun and games," he advised.
On the other hand, Amy has expressed her preference for a later pregnancy as well as for keeping her own family small.
"I think [Dillon] will be an awesome dad and I can't wait to be a mom someday, but we've got so many little cousins to love on and so many little kiddos that we don't feel like we're missing out," she explained. "Anyway, we don't want a lot of kids."
