In the fourth episode of "Supernatural' season 11, the show paid tribute to the Impala and fans were sent back to the earlier days of the hit series when the Winchester brothers merely hunted supernatural creatures.
Episode four, appropriately titled "Baby,' began with Dean (Jensen Ackles) spending some time at the bar and Sam (Jared Padalecki) eating at a diner. Sam also decided to have some rest inside the Impala and, while snoozing, the youngest Winchester dreamed about his father, John Winchester. Only this time, John had been younger and was seemingly offering his son all the right advice.
The conversation led to the subject of the Darkness, which was revealed to be approaching and only the siblings can put a stop to it. When Sam points out that he needs help, John says, "God helps those who help themselves."
While Sam is considering the possibility that it could have been God himself who was giving him these visions, Dean sums it up as one of the effects of his infection or a "fever dream."
Season 11, episode four also showed Dean and Sam fighting a ghoulpire leader, also recognized as a half vampire, half ghoul hybrid, who is creating an army in preparation for the Darkness' arrival.
In addition, Ackles previously shared that unique alliances will be formed this season on "Supernatural.'
"People are getting their defenses together ... and being like, 'Listen, it's not about you and me anymore," the actor told TVLine. "It's about us, and we're going to lose all of this if we don't join forces and man up.'"
He also assured fans that Castiel, Crowley and Rowena are set to find safety, although it remains uncertain whether they will all remain safe with the arrival of the Darkness.
"In and around Episode 9 and 10, we'll have some other cool characters that have some interesting things to say about The Darkness," Ackles added.
When asked about Sam and Dean's sibling relationship, Ackles also discussed how he sees their characters teaming up to fight off the same villain during a major apocalyptic event.
Compared to past installments, the actor described season 11 as a "bit of a throwback to maybe season one or season two," when the brothers enjoyed more time fighting together for the sake of humanity.
